When starting out a backside 180 is usually one of the first trick a snowboarder learns. With a bit of practice it’s an easy trick to learn and if executed well can still look very stylish. It also a trick that you can do without a kicker or on very small obsticles while riding down your favourite slope. Before you try to do a BS 180 though learn how to ride fakie, once your are able to ride fakie your ready to learn the BS 180.
- First you want to find a kicker that you are comfortable hitting and do a few straight ollies over it. Get some confidence and relax.
- Imagine the backside 180 in your head. Think of all the steps, how you turn and how you land.
- Find the ideal kicker for you and work out the right speed, then flatten your board and approach the kicker
- Ollie of the kicker to get enough air for your BS 180.
- Twist your body 180° around your spine (or backside). If you are riding regular you will land with your right foot forward. If you are riding goofy your left foot will be forward.
- Turn your head to see the landing early.
- Soften your knees for a smooth and easy landing.
- That’s it you just did a BS 180.
Once you get the BS 180 down solid you can start adding some style to it by grabing the board midair. Or start doing it on the ground without a kicker.
Hope you have fun learning this trick!
